Been out of touch, too much going on, my head is spinning. I’ve been working on 4 quilts, one of which is for a friend. That quilt is first in line. I’m having fun working on it. The other 3 can wait, they’re for my Etsy shop. They’ll get there.

Orange and Blue, Hot Air Rising

Sold

I’ve been pretty busy last few months working on a commissioned piece. I really enjoyed working on it and I’m happy with how it turned out.

I took a moment to catch my breath and now I’ve started a new art quilt. It’s an abstract this time.

I love the colors orange and dark blue when they are used together. They set each other off and look awesome. When I painted the silk I wanted to feature those two colors in deep rich concentrations. I also added some elements of metallic gold and copper in there.

Here are a few shots of this new quilt in progress. It’s an abstract. I’ve finished the the applique and begun the thread painting. I want a very linear look.

Contrast, make your art quilts POP!

Put two opposites side by side, what happens?

How do you stand out in a crowd of people dressed in black?

Wear whit

I make art quilts for sale and  I do silk paintings. I want my work

to get noticed. Do you want art work that stands out on your walls?

Contrast can make a big difference.

Strong contrasts make things  stand out, they are noticed  immediately, commanding  your attention. A strong contrast will intensify the impact of the contrasting items.

The definition of the word contrast is the state of being strikingly different from something else, typically something in juxtaposition or close association.

Why my interest? I’ve been thinking about contrasts lately and more to the point, how can they be used effectively in to create interesting fiber art quilts.  I’ll get to that query later. But first I have one of my little stories to relate.

Sane or insane? Earthling or alien?

It’s A Stained Glass Window

What have I been doing? Lots of new quilts.

I mentioned in my last post, I would be catching you up on some of my newer art quilts. I don’t see any posts showing this one [it’s probably seven posts back], so here’s one I’ve finished and have already shipped to its new home.

Meeting so many nice people, a perk I didn’t anticipate.

This is a commission for one of my favorite customers. I’ve had so many really nice customers in the years I’ve been doing this. I’ve met some very nice  people.
